Background & Rationale:

Stray animals, particularly stray dogs, continue to be a significant issue that has not been adequately addressed. Although many people consider it unrelated to their daily lives, stray dogs can contribute to public health and safety concerns. Many of these animals were once owned pets but were abandoned when their owners were no longer able to care for them due to circumstances such as unplanned litters, illness, or disability. As the stray dog population grows, so does the risk of disease transmission and safety issues within communities.

Various individuals and animal welfare organizations have taken responsibility for rescuing stray dogs by providing shelter, vaccinations, sterilization, and proper care. However, these efforts often receive limited support from both the public and private sectors, placing a considerable financial burden on those involved and making it difficult to provide adequate living conditions for the animals.

Recognizing these challenges, Ohkajhu initiated the Love Animals... Our Loyal Friends" project to support public health, community safety, and animal welfare. The project aims to help raise funds for the care of stray dogs, purchase essential supplies, provide flea and tick treatments, and support organizations caring for abandoned animals. It was established with the goal of identifying problems, implementing solutions, and promoting long-term support for the benefit of society as a whole.

Objectives:
  1. To support stray dog shelters and help ensure that stray dogs receive proper care, while encouraging caregivers to continue their work for society.
  2. To promote public awareness and encourage critical thinking in identifying and addressing social issues.
  3. To provide practical experience in supporting communities and individuals directly affected by social issues.
  4. To develop leadership skills, encourage doing what is right, and promote teamwork.
  5. To encourage responsible pet ownership and proper care of dogs.
  6. To raise public awareness of the stray dog issue and promote population control through sterilization of both owned and stray dogs.
  7. To foster positive attitudes toward stray dogs, encourage people not to harm them, and promote adoption to help reduce the stray dog population in communities.
  8. To reduce the risk of rabies in local communities.
  9. To reduce the risk of people of all ages being bitten or attacked by stray dogs.
  10. To encourage people to value Thai dogs, adopt them, and provide homes for stray dogs.

Expected Outcome
The project supported the care of stray dogs and increased awareness of the challenges they face, including infections, wounds, and flea and tick infestations. It also enhanced understanding of appropriate treatment and long-term solutions while supporting underfunded stray dog shelters, creating positive social impact and encouraging those dedicated to animal welfare to continue their work.
