Background & Rationale:
Promoting sustainable agriculture is essential to strengthening farmers' resilience and enabling them to adapt effectively to changing conditions while reducing dependence on external inputs wherever practical. Consumer demand for safe agricultural products, particularly vegetables, continues to increase. However, many farmers still rely on excessive or improper use of chemical substances during production, resulting in negative impacts on the health of both producers and consumers. At the same time, the supply of safe vegetables remains insufficient to meet growing market demand.
Many farmers lack the motivation, knowledge, and practical skills needed to produce safe agricultural products. In addition, limited connections between producers, traders, and consumers have constrained the growth of Thailand's safe agriculture market.
Furthermore, the Department of Agricultural Extension has recently recruited a significant number of new officers, while advances in safe agricultural production technologies—particularly for vegetables—have created a need for additional training. To fulfill the Department's mission of supporting and developing farmers so they can produce and manage agricultural products that meet market demand, it is essential to strengthen the capabilities of both farmers and extension officers in safe agricultural production, with an emphasis on cultivating vegetables free from harmful chemical residues. This will help promote the long-term sustainability of Thailand's agricultural production system.
